Last.fm Ball Pit
27th of February, 2008
Last.fm is an amazing web application used to record and recommend music you listen to. It takes note of the music you listen to in iTunes, then recommends new music to you based on what you seem to like. I’ve been using it for so long that my username there is fightingfriends — the username I used in high school. In two years I’ve scrobbled over 44,000 songs. Anyway, I could write all day about how fantastic the app is but the point is, they made a ball pit.
No matter how old you are, your dream is a ball pit — don’t lie to me or yourself. If a personal ball pit is out of your grasp, working at a place with a ball pit is the next best thing. I’m satisfied knowing I live in a world shared with companies that can be both successful and build an office ball pit.
It started with Randall Munroe over at Xkcd creating his own ball pit and documenting the experience. He later followed up with a larger ball pit.
The day I’m sitting up to my neck in a pool of coloured balls will be the day I know I’ve made it.

Haha I too have my high school username attached to my last.fm account, but I have a far less impressive 18,900 in 2.5 years.
The ball pit seems far more google-ish, but I’m glad they’re embracing the whole quirky company fun thing.
