Four Nights, Four Movies

8th of June, 2007

A day or two ago Garrett Murray did some very short movie reviews. I think it’s a great idea - long reviews, especially movie reviews can be tedious. Every night this week I’ve watched a different movie before going to bed. Here’s my four short reviews.

Smokin’ Aces ★★★★★

One of my favourite movies of all time. A huge amount of characters managed perfectly. Gangster themes can be tacky but this is holds onto all the cool parts, the money, the women, the secrecy. Huge twists all the way through but not difficult to follow. The FBI boss is so cool I just want to be him.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me ★★★☆☆

The second or third time I’ve seen this Austin Powers movie. There’s lots of real, laugh out loud moments. Dr. Evil is a hilarious character and Felicity Shagwell is plain sexy. There’s also a lot of lame humor - Mini Me isn’t funny at all. Generally it’s great, I love Austin Powers style.

Idiocracy  ★★★☆☆

It’s supposed to be a comedy but it’s not very funny, it’d appeal more to the kind of people they’re making fun of in the movie. I find value in the general message and believe it’s definitely already starting to happen. It gets points for that and for the family tree segment at the beginning.

Little Miss Sunshine  ★☆☆☆☆

Shit. Well, it was OK, I think the characters were done really well, even if I hated them all. The story was boring, everything that happened was anticlimactic and frustrating. It did a good job of portraying a range of different kinds of idiots but maybe that was the problem, there’s no hero, just idiots.

  1. Hi,

I found your website while browsing the web and I would like to introduce you to our project, dedicated to fighting climate change and poverty, called Tree-Nation. Via our website you can plant trees for yourself or offer them to someone else. The trees are being planted in a virtual map on our website and in our real plantation in Niger. Eventually our goal is to plant 8 million trees in Africa in the shape of a huge heart. Have a look at our website to see whether you like the project and if you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

    Many thanks!
